Training incentive brings contribution to kids' ward

An environmental training program at Mildura road construction firm Fulton Hogan has led to a substantial financial contribution to the Mildura Base Hospital children’s ward.

The company pledged a charity contribution on behalf of each staff member completing a safety and environmental training course earlier this year. The result was a win-win with 13 staff completing the important training and the $1000 raised being contributed to the MBH children’s ward.
It comes at an exciting time, with the announcement in April that the Victorian Government’s Regional Health Infrastructure program will fund a new 3.8-million-dollar Paediatric unit at MBH, to be developed from next year.
The Nurse Unit Manager of Paediatric Services Noriel Serato said community contributions were always an important aspect of supporting children and families at the hospital.
“The prospect of a dedicated Paediatric Unit is something we’ve been striving for and it gives us a fantastic opportunity to enhance our family-centered model of care even further,” Mr Serato said.
“But we’ve always needed community support for the little things, and that will always be the case,” he said.
“Things like toys, books and games provided through the generosity of our local people and organisations make a hospital stay a for kids that little bit easier.”
Fulton Hogan Mildura site manager Peter Reid visited the Children’s Ward to hand the cheque to Mr Serato, MBH Director of Medical Services Kate McConnon and Acting Director of Nursing Kristjan Hobbs.
“We are fortunate to have such a supportive community willing to come on board with those contributions because they really make a difference to families going through what can be a pretty tough time,” Dr McConnon said.
