The creative talents of Sunraysia’s vocational education and training (VET) students were celebrated at St Joseph’s College Mildura this week.

More than 100 students studying VET courses at St Joseph’s College and the Riverside Trade Training Centre had their work on display at the 2016 VET Showcase.
The event featured a performance by the music students, canapés served by the hospitality students, and a variety of hair and makeup looks demonstrated by the hairdressing and beauty services students.
It concluded with a parade of fashion subcultures styled by the textiles and design students, with hair and makeup by the hair and beauty students.
St Joseph’s College textiles teacher Maree Jones said students from six local schools – St Joseph’s College, Mildura Senior College, Trinity Lutheran College, Red Cliffs Secondary College, Merbein P-10 and Chaffey Secondary College – participated in the event.
“It was a real collaboration of all the students’ work – they all worked together to produce a wonderful show,” Mrs Jones said.
“With the styling project, the design students each picked a different fashion subculture and worked in collaboration with St Vinnies to find clothes from the op shop to style their looks.
“They then gave a brief to the hair and beauty girls who finished the looks off with hair and makeup, and the VET music students picked the most appropriate music for each look as they walked down the runway.
“Not only did the students produce something to showcase to the community, they also used it as a real world experience.”
Mrs Jones said all the money raised from gold coin donations at the door would be given to St Vinnies.
