Stepping up for Give Me Five

Mildura families are being encouraged to get behind the Mildura Base Hospital’s Children’s ward at the final event of 97.9 Sun FM’s ‘Give Me Five For Kids’ campaign this Sunday.

Mildura Base Hospital and the MBH Community Advisory Board are running their first Community Walkathon event at the Langtree Mall as the final event of the month-long campaign.
The Walkathon will coincide with the Mildura City Sunday Market and Mildura Base Hospital Community Advisory Board Member Gayle Danson said she hoped people would take the opportunity for a Sunday outing by joining in the walk.
“This is Mildura Base Hospital and the Community Advisory Group’s own initiative to support Give Me Five for Kids – we hope this will be the first of what will become an annual community event,” Ms Danson said.
“We don’t need people to bring anything except some comfortable shoes – just join in at 10 am in the Langtree Mall.
“Please wear something yellow if you can, bring your family, friends and children and make it a healthy fun start to your Sunday!
“John Burfitt will be on hand collecting the entrance fee of gold coin donations and there will be free face painting and giveaways for the kids and health information displays.”
The 2.2 kilometre Walkathon will be done as two laps of a figure-eight circuit from Langtree Mall.  The route does not cross any roads, making it safe and easy for families to take part. 
Ms Danson applauded 97.9 Sun FM’s commitment to the Give Me Five campaign and the generosity of Sunraysia residents and businesses.
“We were thrilled with the amount of support we received last year but the support this year has really put that in the shadows – it’s been incredible,” she said.
“Sun FM has been amazing once again this year.  It’s been great to see businesses returning year after year to support the Children’s ward but the number of new faces supporting the cause is really encouraging.”
MBH Paediatric Nurse Unit Manager Ros Roberts said part of the funds raised this year would be used to purchase equipment for children with respiratory illnesses.
“We are in need of some humidifiers in the Children’s ward and it would be great if we could also afford some monitors for children with respiratory illnesses on continuous oxygen.”
