Second birthday for Mildura Living Magazine

Mildura’s regional lifestyle magazine Mildura Living is continuing to go from strength to strength as it chalks up a second year of publication.

The quarterly magazine’s first issue went to press in autumn 2011, and the second birthday edition will hit the shelves this week.

The milestone will be celebrated with an invitation-only launch at the Old Mildura Homestead tonight with special guest Julia Zaetta, the editor of Better Homes and Gardens.

“Julia is the daughter of the iconic Mildura photographer the late Frank Zaetta and grew up here, but she’s also a great example of the many talented people our region has produced," said publishing editor Toni Stoeckel.

“Part of what the magazine is about is trying to build a real sense of pride in our region – the fabulous people that are connected to it and just how unique it is,” she said.

“I really think we’re achieving that.  The magazine showcases what Mildura is about in every season, and when every issue comes out we get feedback from local people saying how great it is to see Mildura portrayed in such a positive way.

“The amazing thing to us has been just the depth of interesting stories that we have to tell here – we get terrific feedback from the community for story ideas about our own people doing wonderful things.”

Ms Stoeckel said there were also more tangible benefits flowing from the magazine.

“And as much as it makes people here proud about their region, people who live away also tell us it’s a great way to reconnect, and to explain what Mildura is about to their networks in their new communities,” she said.

“So obviously the spin-off from that is that Mildura is being placed on the radar for new people all the time as a potential source of product, business or travel.”

Ms Stoeckel said circulation had continued to grow steadily since the magazine was launched.

“We are now distributed across most of Victoria, and parts of New South Wales and South Australia – but we also have subscriptions from across the country and we’ve even had them from overseas,” she said.

“The magazine is in selected newsagents in Melbourne and Adelaide, and in Qantas lounges in Melbourne, Adelaide and Hobart, which has generated a lot of interest.”
