SCR seeks input on trial of five-day service

Sunraysia Cancer Resources’ three-month trial of opening on Mondays ended on June 30 until the Committee of Management evaluates the trial and determine if there is a genuine need to permanently extend opening hours.

SCR’s 10th Street shopfront is one of the only services of its type in country Victoria, providing information about all types of cancer, as well as practical help for clients travelling to access treatment.
Until this year, the service was closed on Mondays, but was open for five days a week during a three-month trial from March.
Centre Manager Viona Woodroffe said the traffic through the centre indicated demand for the expanded service, but it is now time to gather documented evidence to support the anecdotal feedback.
The Sunraysia Cancer Resources shopfront service is a unique community-driven and funded service focused entirely on supporting members of the local community through a cancer diagnosis and treatment.  Support services include a library of information and resources on various forms of cancer, linkages to cancer-specific support organisations and practical assistance with travel and accommodation for people having to travel for treatment.
“Our mission is to be there for people when they need us, but moving permanently to a five-day service is a big decision because of the extra volunteer and staff resourcing it needs,” she said.
“Demand for our services continues to grow and our challenge is to ensure we provide the best-possible mix of services to meet our community’s needs while continuing to be sustainable in the long-term. Community input will assist us to continue improving the services provided.”
The organisation will distribute an online survey through Survey Monkey and for those who do not have internet access a paper version will be available from the SCR office.
