Partnership to delivery Koori services at Robinvale

Mallee District Aboriginal Services has stepped in to deliver key family services programs to the Koori community at Robinvale for the next year.

MDAS this week began recruiting for eight staff who will operate the family services from Murray Valley Aboriginal Cooperative’s Time Out Service building in Latje Road.
“This is a partnership with the Robinvale community to fill the void in terms of services provided under contract from the Department of Human Services,” said MDAS General Manager of Family Services, Cassie Atchison.
“These are critical services and our priority is to ensure that they continue at Robinvale.  We have agreed to provide the services for the next 12 months while work continues around finding a long-term solution for the community,” she said.
Services to be provided by MDAS at Robinvale include a Time Out Service, Integrated Family Services, Advocacy and Referral, Youth Justice, Kinship Care and Aboriginal Family Led Decision-making.
MVAC CEO Steve Bowden said the community welcomed the assurance that the important services would be maintained at Robinvale.
“What I am hearing from community is good feedback – that they are happy that MDAS is helping out and that the services are still here,” Mr Bowden said.
“MVAC is focussing on resolving the accreditation issues in the next 12 months Mildura is just down the road, so geographically I think it will work and I would like to thank MDAS for putting up its hand and ensuring the Robinvale community has the services it needs.”
