Partnership in Mildura's East End

Residents of Mildura’s East End are planning to develop their own community calendar as part of a growing partnership aimed at building community engagement and addressing issues of concern in the area.

The calendar project will be launched at a special free Easter lunch next week.
It’s an initiative of the East End Community House and Mallee District Aboriginal Services in a partnership aimed at offering the community opportunities to get on board in addressing local issues.
The Community House Co-ordinator Chris Howe said the idea was one of several initiatives aimed at addressing underlying issues with the local community.
“Our Art Director Sheryl Bennett will run a 10-week art class and interested people will produce works that reflect relevant community issues,” Mr Howe said.
“The works will be used in designing our own calendar, which will be a great way of the community itself identifying and responding to some of the issues of concern,” he said.
The community Easter Bingo Lunch at the East End Community House on March 22 is being run in conjunction with Mallee District Aboriginal Services
MDAS Gambler’s Help coordinator Richard Vaughan said the aim of the lunch was primarily to bring the community together in a positive and friendly atmosphere.
“Lunch will be supplied by the Community House and will come largely from that fantastic resource, the community garden,” Mr Vaughan said.
“But there’ll also be the launch of the calendar program, entertainment and the chance to win some great prizes with a hamper and bingo.”
The MDAS Gambler’s Help, Bringing Them Home, Alcohol and Other Drugs and Healthy Lifestyle teams will also be joining in the lunch.
The event will run from 11 am to 2.30 pm on Tuesday March 22.
