New program to hit Vision Australia airwaves

A new entertainment program for people who are blind or have low vision will launch on Vision Australia Radio Mildura next month.

Featuring stories from local magazine Your Mildura, the hour-long program will air at 2pm every

Thursday from December 7.
Volunteer radio presenter Robyn Aitken said the program would also include history pieces, short
stories, plays, and general human-interest stories.
“It will centre around pieces from the magazine, but the rest of the content will be different every
week because our listeners are interested in all sorts of things,” Ms Aitken said.
“Vision Australia Radio is about providing information to people who can’t read the news, and we
broadcast serious news programs based on all the local newspapers. But we also want to bring
them feel-good news about our community.”
Ms Aitken is also a member of the play-reading group that has been recording theatre scripts to air
as part of the program.
“We’ve recorded lots of different types of plays – comedies, science fiction, Christmas, horror,
historical and we want to find a good romance,” she said.
“A lot of us have theatre experience, so we love getting together and reading plays – it’s a great
social event.”
Ms Aitken, who has volunteered at Vision Australia for almost 15 years, said the group would love to
have more members.
