New board members for MAC

The Mildura Aboriginal Corporation has two new faces on its board of management.

The new members were elected at MAC’s latest board meeting and will serve until the organisation’s next annual general meeting in November.

The new board-members are Michael Gilby from Mildura and Rob Connelly from Swan Hill.

Mr Gilby is a Barkindji man who works as a policy officer for the Department of Primary Industries in Victoria, and whose work focusses on conservation and natural resource management.

“I’ve had an interest in giving back to the community at a local level, and serving on the board seemed to be a good way to do that,” Mr Gilby said.

“I’m keen to be part of the new direction MAC is taking, and hopefully I will be able to continue that when the members vote in November.”

Rob Connelly is a descendent of the Wiradjuri people in Central New South Wales but is Swan Hill born and MAC’s first Swan Hill-based board member. 

Mr Connelly is active in serving on various committees in Swan Hill, and is working for the Department of Employment, Education and Workplace Relations on parental and community engagement.

“I am really keen to get some Swan Hill input and opinions at MAC’s board level,” Mr Connelly said.

“MAC has been doing some great things down here, but it’s important Swan Hill is represented and there’s good two-way communication going on,” he said.

The two board vacancies were the result of resignations by Ada Peterson and Summer Hunt earlier this year.
