Mallee locals urged to contributed to Aged Care Royal Commission

Residents, their families and members of Mallee Track Health and Community Service (MTHCS) staff have an opportunity to provide a submission to the current Royal Commission into Aged Care Quality and Safety.

Along with over 1000 other aged care providers, Mallee Track Health and Community Service (MTHCS) has been invited to provide an early written submission for the Royal Commission.

MTHCS Chief Executive Officer Lois O’Callaghan said the health service’s submission was finalised last Friday.

“The Royal Commission has now opened invites to interested members of the public to make a submission. Submissions from the public are being accepted until the end of June 2019,” she added.

Ms O’Callaghan said this was a great opportunity for staff, residents and the community.

“The health service feels very strongly about the provision of quality aged care and especially access to local services.

“Regulatory requirements and staffing issues, especially the regulated staff-patient ratios, are huge issues that impact our services so we welcome this investigation.

The preliminary hearing of the Royal Commission took place in January and resulted in increased interest from the public and the media. The first hearing began in Adelaide on Monday (February 11).

Ms O’Callaghan said the Commission was calling for anyone who was interested in making a submission to first get in touch with them and tell their story so that appropriate steps can be taken, if necessary, to protect their interests.
