Low vision technology heads to Mildura

Innovative new equipment and technology designed to assist people who are blind or have low vision will be this week in Mildura.

Vision Australia’s Mildura Texpo will include demonstrations for healthcare providers, ophthalmologists and optometrists, and the low vision community.
Vision Australia assistive technology specialist Steve Monigatti will be visiting from Bendigo to run the sessions.
“The Mildura Texpo is a great opportunity for the community to experience some brand new, ground-breaking technology that can help people live independently and achieve their goals,” Mr Monigatti said.
“One of the newest pieces is the OrCam, which is a device that recognises written material and reads it out to the wearer. They no longer need to rely on others for assistance with everyday tasks like reading mail or identifying medications – even people without any vision can do it on their own.
“People will also be able to try Aria, an app that connects to an assistant via smart glasses or a smart phone and beams live stream footage. The assistant becomes the person’s eyes and helps them navigate different environments with confidence.”
The Mildura Texpo will be held on Wednesday 27 and Thursday 28 March at Vision Australia, 123 Langtree Avenue (corner of Tenth Street).
