A new Koori Leadership Academy is being established in Mildura to support Aboriginal secondary school students in their study, employment and life aspirations.

The academy has been formed by the Mallee District Aboriginal Services and the YMCA, and is open to any Indigenous youth currently engaged in secondary education.
MDAS Family Services Manager Andy Charles said 30 had been chosen for the program, which is holding its first session today.
“The academy program will be delivered over 12 months and the aim is to give young people life experiences, learning and networking opportunities that they might otherwise find difficult to access,” Mr Charles said.
“We hope the programs the students will be exposed to over the year will inform, improve and shape their personal, social and leadership skills.”
The Koorie Youth Leadership Academy will involve learning about:
• Leadership styles and skills
• Personal Values
• Teamwork
• Group Dynamics
• Interpersonal Skills
• Public Speaking
• Resilience
• Social Enterprise
• Leading social change in the community
