Helping Mildura businesses embrace change - workshop next week

Wed, 09 Mar 2016 03:45:00

Mildura businesses will be introduced to a new way of improving business operations and sustainability next week through a free local workshop.

The one-day Lean Thinking workshop will help business owners and managers change their business thinking and begin to develop a new approach to leadership and business improvement.

Fully funded by Mildura Development Corporation (MDC) and AusIndustry, the workshop will be presented by business management expert Peter Veal on March 17.
MDC CEO Jenny Garonne said it was the second Lean workshop the organisation had hosted in Mildura.
“Lean is becoming the benchmark method businesses of all sizes are using to review and refine their processes and methods to improve their operations,” Ms Garonne said.
“Often the hardest thing for businesses to do is step back and critically examine their methods, their effectiveness and their culture – and set about changing what exists.
“Lean is a model for continuous improvement that is practical, effective and, most importantly, achievable for businesses of all sizes and in all industries.”
Ms Garonne said presenter Peter Veal had decades of experience working in performance review and change management, and would deliver a workshop that was informative and challenging.
“Two of the biggest challenges for medium to large businesses in Mildura are figuring out how to effectively manage highly variable business environment and how to bring about cultural change,” she said.
“The workshop will include plenty of discussion time, and participants will hear from other local companies that have introduced Lean to their business.
“Participants will also complete a number of simulation exercises and leave with their own action plan for how to proceed.”
