Former Olympian Matt Welsh visits Mildura

Former Australian Olympic swimmer Matt Welsh will be the guest speaker at St Joseph’s College Mildura’s inaugural Father’s Day Breakfast.

The father-of-four will deliver a talk about men’s health to a group of students, staff, and the significant men in their lives.
The event will be held ahead of Father’s Day on Friday, September 2.
Mr Welsh burst onto the swimming world stage at the Sydney 2000 Olympics and came home with three medals.
Since retiring, his passion for health and wellbeing has expanded beyond the pool, and he is now a highly sought-after speaker.
St Joseph’s College Principal Marg Blythman said the event was the partner to their Mother’s Day Breakfast, held for the first time in May this year.
“It’s important to stop and take the time to recognise the significant role our fathers, grandfathers, uncles, and other caregivers play in our lives,” Mrs Blythman said.
“Our Father’s Day Breakfast is a perfect opportunity for our school community to celebrate these men, thank them for everything they do, and spend time with them.”
Mrs Blythman said the school was looking forward to welcoming Mr Welsh to Mildura, and hearing his story.
“As a husband and father who has had a very successful swimming career, Matt Welsh is the perfect person to speak at our first Father’s Day Breakfast,” she said.
“We are also still caught up in the spirit of the Rio Olympics, so it will be great to meet an Olympic medal winner and learn more about health and fitness.”
