Mildura businesses are being offered the chance to begin a “journey of excellence” for their business with a one-day snap start to the “Lean Thinking” business method.
Mildura Development Corporation is hosting a one-day workshop on 9 December 2015 on “The Lean Approach”, a model to generate leadership and assist businesses to become more sustainable.
MDC acting CEO Jenny Garonne said Lean was becoming the benchmark method for businesses of all sizes to critically review and refine their processes and methods to improve their operations.
“Often the hardest thing for businesses of any size to do is to be able to step back and critically examine their methods, their effectiveness and their culture – and how to set about changing what exists,” Ms Garonne said.
“Lean is a model for continuous improvement that is practical, effective and, most importantly, achievable for businesses of all sizes and in all industries, services or manufacturing,” she said.
Ms Garonne said the one-day workshop with experienced presenters Peter Veal and Bryan Moroney would be challenging and informative.
“We think this is a great opportunity to offer local businesses, particularly at this time of year when often there is a little more chance to reflect and review – it’s really a timely opportunity,” she said.
“Peter and Bryan are both highly experienced managers with practical expertise in performance review and change management. Peter in particular has over 40 years’ experience, much of this involving Lean principles.
“For medium to large businesses in the Mildura region, two of the big challenges we hear about constantly are how to effectively manage what can be highly variable business environments and how to bring about cultural change,” she said.
“This workshop provides the tools for businesses to get started on a new approach to business sustainability that offers continuous improvement and the opportunity to refine their approach to leadership.
“The day will be interactive with plenty of discussion time, including companies here in our own region sharing their experiences of introducing Lean in their businesses. There will be a number of simulation exercises to anchor the learning and participants will leave the session with their own action plan for their next steps.”
